FIRE DOOR INSPECTOR

Our client are a fantastic local engineering company based in Harlow, Essex who are looking for a Fire Door Inspector to join their team on a full time, permanent basis.
In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting fire doors to ensure they meet national fire safety standards and regulations. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the safety of buildings by identifying potential fire hazards, ensuring proper installation, and recommending necessary repairs or replacements of fire doors.
Fire Door Inspector - The Role
Conduct inspections of fire doors across various commercial and residential buildings
Assess the condition of fire doors, including door hardware, seals, leaves and frames, to ensure ongoing compliance with regulations
Verify that fire doors are properly installed, free from obstructions, and in working order
Perform testing of fire doors to check for functionality, including checking that they close properly and fully latch within required timescales
Identify and document any non-compliance issues or potential safety hazards, and prepare detailed inspection reports
Recommend corrective actions for any deficiencies found during inspections, including maintenance, replacements, or adjustments
Ensure all fire door inspection records are accurately maintained
Work with building management, contractors, and fire safety teams to address any issues identified during inspections
Stay current with fire door standards and regulations through ongoing CPD to ensure all inspections are conducted in accordance with the latest safety requirements.
Provide advice and recommendations regarding fire door maintenance and upgrades to clients or building owners.
Fire Door Inspector - What we are looking for
Proven experience as a fire door inspector or in a related field
Experience of the BM-Trada and/or FIRAS fire door maintenance schemes
In-depth knowledge of fire safety regulations, building codes, and fire door standards
Strong understanding of fire door construction, hardware, seals, and mechanisms
Certification in fire door inspection (e.g., accredited courses or training)
Accreditation from recognized organizations, such as the Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS) or similar
Ability to work independently and manage multiple inspections efficiently
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare inspection reports and interact with clients or building management
Physical ability to inspect doors, including the ability to access various heights, use tools for inspection, and lift or adjust heavy door components when necessary
Experience working with fire door suppliers, manufacturers, or contractors
Knowledge of other safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, emergency lighting) and their integration with fire doors
