Job Description:
The Role
As an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in creating mechanical service designs, calculations, specifications, and tender documents within a project team.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare specifications, equipment schedules, drawings, and information to installation and fully coordinated standards (RIBA Stage 5).
2. Develop detailed budget costs and estimates when necessary.
3. Collaborate with electrical / energy / Part L engineers for low-energy design solutions.
4. Represent the company at design team and project meetings.
5. Conduct site quality and legislative inspections and generate associated reports.
6. Provide exceptional technical and commercial solutions.
7. Conduct feasibility studies.
8. Produce technical reports, specifications, contract documents, etc.
9. Directly engage with clients and contractors.
10. Supervise junior staff on a day-to-day basis.
Requirements:
Essential:
1. Previously worked as a Design Engineer or in a similar role.
2. At least 2 years’ experience of mechanical building services design.
3. Experience as a design consultant or contractor.
4. Expertise in mechanical building services/ HVAC design (e.g., domestic water services, ventilation, heating, cooling, renewables, and sustainability).
5. Practical experience and understanding of TAS, Cymap, and AutoCAD.
6. Knowledge of thermal modelling SAP and SBEM.
7. Background in general mechanical building engineering services, mechanical detail, and performance design.
8. Track record in fulfilling regulatory responsibilities linked to building regulations Part L and BREEAM.
9. HNC qualification in a relevant building services field.
10. Valid UK driving licence.
Desirable:
1. Experience in the building services design environment; exposure to SAP and/or SBEM and LZC reporting.
2. Background in utilising Revit MED or Magicad.
3. Possess degree in a relevant building services field.
4. Familiarity to internal drainage.
5. Chartered Engineer (MCIBSE) accreditation or progressing towards it.
6. Experience in guiding, supporting, and overseeing junior personnel.
