We have a fantastic opportunity for a Workshop Technician / MOT Tester to join the Transport Services team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake MOT inspections to strict DVSA guidelines and undertake Hackney Carriage/private hire testing to the required standards, as well as assisting when required in providing a repair and maintenance service to vehicles, plant, and equipment, for both internal and external customers.
You will have a minimum of four years’ full-time employment as a mechanic/technician on diesel engines, petrol engines, transmissions, and electrical systems and hold a DVSA nominated tester (Classes IV and VII) certificate. This must have been 4 years in.
The role will be responsible for carrying out routine maintenance and repairs of a varied fleet of vehicles which cover multiple services across the authority, including Plant vehicles and specialist equipment. You will also undertake inspections, repairs, and maintenance on all Council vehicles and specialist equipment to Ministry of Transport standards.
To be successful, you will need to have an NVQ Level 2 in motor vehicle craft studies or an equivalent qualification or have been an MOT tester previously or currently and be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge and experience. Ideally, you will hold a Large Goods Vehicle Class ‘C’ licence and an MOT nominated tester class 4 & 7; however, this is not essential as training will be given.
You will be able to demonstrate a flexible and organised approach to your work and have good communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to work using your own initiative with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
Usual working hours for the post would be Monday – Friday, 08:00 to 16:00.
