Job summary
Applications are invited to fill the post of full-time Consultant Dermatopathologist for which applicants should have an established interest.
This replacement post offers an opportunity to join a Cellular Pathology Service and to develop specialist diagnostic and research interests with the support of the corresponding clinical teams.
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must also have Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists.
The department has recently implemented a digital pathology solution as part of a pathology network initiative and, once full roll-out is achieved, will provide opportunities for flexible working.
Although this is an opportunity to fill a permanent position within the department, consideration will also be given to applicants meeting the requirements of the role wishing to take up the post on a fixed-term (minimum one year) basis.
For individuals taking up a permanent post, a Recruitment and Retention Premium up to the value of £20,000 is available to the successful candidate and additional assistance with relocation and accommodation is available.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will join the team of specialist Histopathologists within the department who collectively support the clinical services in Bristol and Weston. The service is delivered from a purpose-built Pathology centre built on the Southmead Hospital site. The department continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team delivering Dermatopathology services to Bristol, Weston and to other Trusts in the southwest. In addition to the clinical work of the department, the successful candidate will be involved in the teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff & Students, will be supported to participate in audit and will be encouraged to develop collaborative research projects within the Trusts and with Bristol universities.

Qualifications & Registration
Essential
* Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
* FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification
Desirable
* Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or PhD)
* Management qualification
Training & Experience
Essential
* Knowledge of the NHS Healthcare system and of Cellular Pathology service redesign processes
* Subspecialty interest in Haematopathology

* Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).

* Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit projects.
* Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance and experience in merging processes to single system demands
