Job Overview
Project management/leadership is a critical capability to enable delivery of project initiatives to ensure business outcomes can be achieved, through orchestration of people, process, technology, and data in a seamless manner, depending upon the type of project solution being delivered.
With an average Capex profile of circa £12m pa, strong project management is critical to lead business & technology teams through the project process, to ensure agreed commitments can be delivered.
The purpose of this role is to inspire & lead a team that continues a step change in project management capability for the organisation through:
1. Compelling leadership and expertise in subject matter
2. Strategies & Methodologies for project delivery translated into policies & procedures and pragmatically applied to our programmes of investment to achieve significant improvement in performance and cost reduction
3. Collaboration with business sponsors on maximising business benefits through value engineered solutions (which may include alternatives to technology) and using the appropriate delivery methods
4. Measuring performance of the end-to-end project management service to ensure it meets the business needs and continuously evolves & improves to meet changing demands
5. Drive transformational change in IT Project leadership to ensure that IT achieves business benefits
6. Line management & coaching of internal IT project management capabilities
7. Senior Project Manager for delivery responsibilities within a business domain
Key Accountabilities
1. Direct & lead LOR’s IT Project delivery method practices and procedures, along with appropriate strategies, policies, frameworks, and governance processes, and embedding into the team’s ways of working.
2. Direct & lead the IT Project management team in LOR’s Europe hub to deliver outstanding project management across the projects in the portfolio.
3. Line manage the IT Project management team, including performance and compliance to LOR’s working practices.
4. Work alongside the Business sponsors to ensure successful delivery of business benefits through the use of best practice project management capability.
5. Be the advocate of a Product centric approach and enablement methodologies.
6. Develop active management of relationship with key stakeholders to enable IT to be seen as a ‘trusted partner’ and the default go-to delivery capability within LOR.
7. Influence peer roles (Programme leaders, Design leads, Architecture leads) on Project delivery making, while retaining ultimate accountability for successful delivery.
8. Ensure delivery team remains focused on benefit realisation across the lifecycle of the project.
9. Ensure robust delivery management governance is shaped and implemented in a consistent manner, establishing Project boards, steering groups, and programme boards as appropriate.
10. Proactive management of Project management Resource plans aligned to investment plans.
11. Further enhance ways of working with partners that LOR IT uses to provide additional delivery capability when required.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Previous experience of setting up and driving the Project management team in a similar or equivalent environment to the organisation.
2. Significant experience of IT Project management/delivery leadership using differing delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, DevOps) in a complex environment, leading different delivery teams from build to buy.
3. 10+ years’ experience of project delivery leadership in a complex multi-site environment with relevant qualifications.
4. Strongly preferred: at least 2 years’ experience in operating as a business-focused programme manager covering business change surrounding an IT implementation.
5. Significant experience in project management techniques, ideally with formal accreditation by industry bodies or certifications i.e., APM, MSP.
6. Previous experience of building, maintaining, and influencing relationships with a range of senior internal and external stakeholders, many of which sit outside IT.
7. Experience of driving change through technology.
8. High energy levels, curiosity, appetite to discover with willingness and able to challenge the status quo.
9. Influencing skills – must be able to build strong relationships at all levels within business domains. Must be able to influence and win trust of 3rd parties.
10. The role holder must be comfortable in working with ambiguity and in an area where there may not be a right answer.
11. Demonstrable ability to lead high-performance teams with a proven track record of delivering through others and matrix managed teams.
Frameworks and Boundaries
1. Works with Business Analysis, Solution Architecture, Agile Practice Lead, PMO, IT Operations, IT Delivery lead (Aus).
2. Primary focus is Europe hub (UK and Middle East) but needs to work with and influence Australia hub (primarily Sydney and Brisbane); therefore, the ability to do some early morning calls (not usually earlier than 7 am) is a must.
3. Externally, works with 3rd parties and supplier resources.
4. The scope of this role extends to all areas of the organisation and will be aligned to the key programmes.
5. Leading teams who are shaping investment & delivering plans.
6. Decision-making authority of all matters related to project and programme management.
