Salary Range and Hours: Band F, £39,686 - £44,438 per annum, 37 hours per week

Role Snapshot…
You will be leading the Compliance team responsible for investigating and taking all appropriate action to resolve breaches of planning control and communicating actions and outcomes to relevant stakeholders including Members. Leadership, negotiation, and communication together with the ability to think outside the box are key skills necessary to be successful in the role.

The two Councils receive circa 4000 applications per year, covering a diverse area including urban areas, rural areas, and vibrant market towns. We serve approximately 260,000 residents and 10,000 businesses across 161 parishes. Our work therefore also encompasses both urban and rural planning, residential, retail, commercial, and agricultural development.
Our One Planning Compliance Team is key to giving integrity to the planning system, investigating breaches of planning control and ensuring compliance with planning permissions.
Your strong problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills will enable you to effect positive outcomes on breaches of planning control; working alongside complainants, applicants, and stakeholders to remedy breaches. You will have a good working knowledge of the suite of enforcement tools and legislation to inform your work and guide the team and take any formal action necessary.
What you’ll be doing…
* Ensure complaints into alleged breaches of planning control and reported high hedges are effectively investigated and recorded and resolution sought in accordance with the councils’ enforcement policy.
* Manage the performance, development, conduct, and attendance of the compliance officers.
* Serving all statutory enforcement and similar notices including high court injunctions and the service of summonses and directing and supporting the team in the same.
* Proactively work with other agencies and services to resolve/address breaches.
* Prepare and present evidence on behalf of the council at any court or other hearing relating to an enforcement matter.
* Be the lead with Members on compliance matters.
You must have… a degree level or equivalent in a planning or related enforcement qualification; significant experience in planning enforcement and investigating complaints and applying legislation and have demonstrable experience in achieving results through managing others.
