A nine month fixed term vacancy has arisen within the pulmonary rehab service to cover a period of maternity leave for a suitably qualified physiotherapist. Although there is no guarantee, there is a possibility of a permanent position at the end of the fixed term.
The post will involve assessment and management of respiratory patients referred to the pulmonary rehab service for exercise and education.
Currently pulmonary rehab is delivered face to face in group settings (leisure centre based) or using a digital approach (online) as well as individually within the patient's own home (home delivery service).
The post will be based at Nevells Rd health centre in Letchworth but there will be a requirement to travel extensively across East and North Hertfordshire to meet the needs of the service. Full induction and training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
* Assessment of patients prior to their attendance at pulmonary rehab.
* Formulation of individual management and/or treatment plans.
* Continuous assessment and evaluation of the pulmonary rehab programmes and modify according to the individual patient needs.
* Awareness of the needs of patients and their carers and to promote and encourage patient independence and where possible restore functional ability.
* Delivery of education to patients using online platforms such as MS Teams as well as face to face in groups or individually.
* Key skills - exceptional organisational, communication, and motivational skills are required.
* Candidates should be familiar with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as common social media platforms and all common IT applications.
* You must hold a full valid driving licence and have access to a car to use regularly for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To provide assessment and treatment for patients referred to the pulmonary rehab service (exercise and education).
* To act as a resource and provide advice for other members of the MDT.
* To develop and deliver a 6-week pulmonary rehab programme in a variety of non-HCT sites (leisure centres) including new pathways developed in light of COVID-19 pandemic e.g., Online pulmonary rehab and pulmonary rehab Home Delivery.
* To maintain patient treatment records and ensure others do the same using System One.
* To undertake a clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using knowledge and skills from theoretical and practical experience.
* To be involved in the education and development of more junior staff to improve their skills and knowledge.
* To participate in clinical supervision to ensure that clinical practice is maintained to a high standard.
Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy (HCPC)
* Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
* The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience in health & rehabilitation.
* Experience of working within a team and independently.
* Understanding of clinical governance and its implications.
* Awareness of recent government initiatives and their impact on practice.
* Experience of working within the NHS.
* Experience in pulmonary rehab and other areas of rehabilitation.
* Experience of doing research or an audit.
