They will be responsible for the planning and implementation of an evidence based, nurse led service to aid the management and delivery of expert care to elective patients who require direct current cardioversion (DCC). This post will sit under the care of the Arrhythmia Nurse specialists who will support the overall delivery of the service., Adhere to the DC Cardioversion service standard operating protocol (SOP) to triage patients based on clinical need, manage the wait list, deliver evidence based, patient centred care from pre-assessment, through to discharge and arrange follow up care based on individual clinical need.
Triage and management of the waiting list with clinical priorities identified and monitoring of unstable patients.
Deliver safe, evidence-based defibrillation as per DC Cardioversion SOP.
Hold or willing to gain Resus council Advanced Life Support qualification.
Hold or willing to gain Physical assessment and Clinical reasoning qualification.
Explain to a patient the purpose, benefits, and possible complications of the procedure to ensure informed consent, including medication information and compliance.
Undertake nurse led pre assessment clinics, interpreting physical and verbal information from patients and seek medical advice, discussing with the Arrhythmia Nurses or Cardiologists in assessing clinical decisions and plan of care.
Request appropriate investigations and tests based on protocols and discuss results in order to plan appropriate patient care.
Plan the workload and prioritise according to clinical need.
First point of contact via the telephone advice line for Cardioversion patients in order to provide support, information, advice, and onward referral.
Promote holistic care, to support and counsel patients through the service journey to provide safe, efficient patient centred care.
The post holder will be an experienced Cardiology Nurse with a minimum of 2 years recent clinical experience.
