About the role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) is on a journey towards a sustainable and secure energy future. Together we build on this momentum, advancing the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) plan for zero carbon operability of the electricity system by 2025.
As a Senior Manager Whole Energy Insights, you will provide technical and strategic leadership to NESO’s whole energy insights programme, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based analysis. This role is a senior position within the Strategy and Policy Directorate, where you will work closely with Whole Energy Insights Managers and a multi-disciplinary team to develop robust advice, information, and analysis. You will provide oversight, coherence, and thought leadership across the insights portfolio, shaping its direction and ensuring alignment with NESO’s strategic priorities. This work will guide the industry stakeholders and government bodies towards optimal decisions for the transition to net zero.
This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick, Glasgow or London, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
* Guide the strategic and technical development of NESO's Whole Energy Insights programme, ensuring that NESO stays ahead of emerging trends and challenges in the GB energy system and providing expert oversight of complex and high-profile deliverables.
* Foster cross-functional collaboration, engaging with technical teams, modellers, and external partners to build mutual understanding of objectives, limitations, and datasets. Ensure that insights on a broad range of topics are appropriately scoped and aligned with stakeholder needs.
* Build and maintain strong relationships across the energy sector, leveraging your network to enhance NESO's credibility and influence in delivering whole energy system insights.
* Provide strategic oversight and challenge to advisory requests, ensuring that NESO’s insights are rigorous, actionable, and aligned with the sector and organisation’s priorities.
About you
* Extensive expertise in the energy sector, with a deep understanding of net zero transition pathways and the key challenges shaping short- and long-term priorities.
* Proven ability to build and sustain high-impact relationships with senior stakeholders, including Government officials, regulators, and industry leaders.
* Demonstrated success in leadership roles, with a strong strategic mindset and a proven track record of influencing outcomes in complex, high-profile settings.
* Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate complex information at an appropriate level for the audience.
* The ability to see the big picture and think strategically.
* Significant experience working within multidisciplinary teams, integrating diverse expertise.
* The ability to deliver change and mitigate complex risks for the overall benefit of NESO both internally and with our external stakeholders, in uncertain, politicised and frequently changing environments.
About what you’ll get
A competitive salary between £72,000 – 90,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance, private medical insurance, 28 days annual leave as standard and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
