The University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Renal unit is the largest provider of secondary and tertiary renal care in Europe, offering comprehensive Nephrology, dialysis, and transplantation services. The transplantation element of the unit covers a catchment area of over 5 million across the wider West Midlands region.
As well as being one of the largest, the unit at QEH has a positive reputation for its services and has active involvement at a national strategic level.
The QE Renal Unit celebrated its 50th year in 2018. During that time, the team has performed over 6000 kidney transplants, including over 1000 living kidney donor transplants. We have since celebrated completing 210 transplants in 2023/24, which was the second most prolific year on record.
Renal Surgery is looking for a dynamic Consultant Surgeon to join the team. The successful candidate must have an interest in and job plan configured to provide a Peritoneal Dialysis service as well as the ever-growing transplantation service. The post will be based in the Department of Renal Surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
