Join Barclays as a Solution Architect where you'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. In this role, you’ll be responsible for driving all technical aspects of solution design, delivery, setting and improving technical direction and standards for development and design across the platforms that support our products and services for Barclays UK customers.
To be successful as a Solution Architect, you will need the following:
1. Degree in computer science or a similar field, along with proven experience in solution architecture and a strong coding background.
2. Extensive experience with system integration, API design, and API management, including architecting enterprise-wide, end-to-end solutions with a focus on cloud-based technologies — specifically AWS, though Azure and Google Cloud are also beneficial.
3. Experience migrating from traditional on-premises to cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS Cloud technologies.
4. Proficiency in producing and presenting technical architecture documentation and proposals to senior design authorities, backed by strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
5. Effective client management, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills are crucial.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
1. AWS Solution Architect professional certification and Java expertise (front-end experience with React or Angular is highly desirable).
2. Training and certification in solution and enterprise architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF.
3. Experience in the financial industry, particularly with digital channels or mobile app solution architecture/design, as well as working in Agile program structures.

Purpose of the role
To design, develop, and implement solutions to complex business problems, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, and design and implement solutions that meet those needs and create solutions that balance technology risks against business delivery, driving consistency.
Accountabilities
1. Design and development of solutions as products that can evolve, meeting business requirements that align with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling.
2. Targeted design activities that apply an appropriate workload placement strategy and maximise the benefit of cloud capabilities such as elasticity, serverless, containerisation etc.
3. Best practice designs incorporating security principles (such as defence in depth and reduction of blast radius) that meet the Bank’s resiliency expectations.
4. Solutions that appropriately balance risks and controls to deliver the agreed business and technology value.
5. Adoption of standardised solutions where they fit. If no standard solutions fit, feed into their ongoing evolution where appropriate.
6. Fault finding and performance issues support to operational support teams, leveraging available tooling.
7. Solution design impact assessment in terms of risk, capacity and cost impact, including estimation of project change and ongoing run costs.
8. Development of the requisite architecture inputs required to comply with the bank's governance processes, including design artefacts required for architecture, privacy, security and records management governance processes.
