We are seeking a passionate, experienced, motivated HCPC-registered senior Biomedical Scientist with a strong background in Cellular Pathology and good experience of Mohs technical procedures.
You will be part of the Cellular Pathology team but primarily based within the Dermatology unit at St Marys Hospital in Portsmouth, providing a high quality Mohs technical service to the Mohs surgical team. This is a permanent post.
Main duties of the job
* Carry out Mohs technical procedures (tissue preparation, inking, orientation, frozen section cutting, staining) intraoperatively on samples of fresh tissue to assist the clinicians with the diagnosis of disease and monitoring the treatment of patients.
* Assist in the provision of reliable and accurate analytical data for the Trust, in accordance with ISO 15189 standards and to be responsible for the organisation and management of the section.
* Work as part of a team to deliver, within budget, a patient-orientated Mohs laboratory service to contribute to efficient and effective care.
* Beresponsible for all technical aspects of the Mohs service based in Dermatology, including arranging equipment maintenance, maintaining stock levels, reviewing SOPs, Health and Safety work, audits
* To maintain all associated departmental records and documentation related to this area.
* To ensure that all staff are aware of current policies and procedures regarding the Mohs technique.
* To represent both Histopathology and Dermatology at meetings and updates involving the Mohs technique.
* To support and train other staff in Mohs techniques and assess competence
* To participate in a monthly rota to Histopathology department on the main QAH site to attend quality, governance and health & safety meetings and provide a service update to line management

Qualifications
Essential
* MSc or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences or being working towards one.
* Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology.
Desirable
* IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice Mohs Histological Procedures
* Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science
Experience
Essential
* At least five year's experience post-registration working in a Histopathology laboratory.
* Be able to demonstrate a broad level of specialist knowledge and practical experience including routine histology, immunocytochemistry, and frozen sectioning.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Evidence of leadership / supervisory responsibility.
* Positive attitude towards education and training.
* Experience in tissue dissection, in particular skin.
* Experience in Mohs techniques.
