How you'll make a difference
Working in a vital front-line team, you will help ensure public spaces such as parks, highways, cemeteries and conservation areas are maintained.
What you will be doing
* In this varied role, you will undertake maintenance work including grass cutting, shrub maintenance, litter picking, trimming and reducing hedges, maintaining beds throughout South Gloucestershire.
* Regularly, you will carry out routine maintenance operations including heavy cutbacks in public parks, open spaces, roadside verges and woodland areas.
* You will assist with maintenance duties and horticultural operations in minor landscaping works such as the planting of bedding, shrubs, and trees.
* Occasionally, you will conduct routine maintenance of the council’s cycle route network using powered hand tools or mechanical equipment and assist in the collection of fly tips.
* Daily, you will be using commercial powered hand tools such as brush cutters, powered pruners, long reach pruners, and pedestrian mowers ensuring that you are adhering to safe methods of work and relevant health and safety regulations.
What we need from you
* You will have demonstrable experience working in a gardening or grounds role and be able to operate commercial professional grounds equipment such as strimmers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers.
* It is essential that you have a full UK driving licence, preferably with experience of driving a long wheelbase transit style tipper and experience in a similar commercial or public sector role or have transferable skills.
* You must be able to follow instructions, read maps, and complete records accurately.
* You are required to have a strong understanding of health and safety and the risks and hazards associated with the role.
* Depending on duties, weekend work may be involved, for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid.
What you need to know
* You will be working from our Hollywood Lane site in Cribbs Causeway, whilst our main office is in Yate.
* Your uniform and equipment will be provided.
* You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence.
