As our Group Tax Manager you’ll support the Group Tax Senior Manager in delivering tax transformation initiatives and leveraging technology to streamline tax processes. This will ensure delivery of tax reporting and consolidation, ensuring compliance with international and UK tax regulations.
In the initial 1-2 years following recruitment, your primary focus will be to work on implementation of Oracle for Tax Provision, Pillar 2, and Country by Country Reporting (CbCR), with other responsibilities growing over time, as the implementation activities scale back.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
1. Support implementation of technology for tax reporting compliance (Pillar 2 and CbCR):
2. Technology and Excel - Assist with technology implementation and develop supporting Excel templates for use across the global Bupa business.
3. Project Management – in collaboration with our third-party adviser, support tracking and monitoring of project progress, managing deadlines and developing documents to support reporting to senior stakeholders.
4. Ongoing technology support management - act as tax support for software, working with Finance Systems Team to support the Market Unit (MU) teams with ongoing system guidance.
5. Reports and reconciliation - assist in the ongoing design, development, and testing of reports and other outputs specific to the IFRS consolidation and tax reporting systems. Ensure automation between tax reporting and financial reporting systems.
6. Ensure a smooth transition of Pillar 2 and CbCR processes into BAU compliance.
7. Automation of other tax processes - Identifying use cases for tax automation across the Bupa Group, involvement in global forums to discuss automation opportunities and building of automations (e.g. leveraging small tools such as ETL & visualization (e.g. Alteryx and PowerBI), robotics, and AI) to improve tax processes.
8. Collaboration and stakeholder management - Work closely with cross-functional teams, tax advisors, finance, procurement, technology, systems architecture, and legal departments to ensure effective communication, coordination, and knowledge sharing regarding tax transformation initiatives.
9. Outsourcing – Managing our advisers in relation to our outsourcing of Pillar 2 compliance. Ensuring deadlines are met, responding to adviser queries, and supporting communications between the adviser and Bupa overseas tax teams.
10. Tax compliance and regulatory reporting.
11. Assist with tax compliance and reporting processes as needed, for example:
12. UK Corporation tax returns, UK Corporate Interest Restriction (CIR) returns, Pillar 2 returns, and Country-by-Country Reporting.
13. Quarterly tax charge for Group entities, using tax reporting software.
14. Tax reporting requirements at half-year and year-end, including tax disclosures for Group Statutory Accounts.
15. Group’s consolidated tax charge for the annual three-year Plan and quarterly rolling forecasts.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
1. Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CTA) with financial accounting background and a minimum of 4 years of experience in tax gained in a multi-national group or large accounting firm.
2. Proficiency in technology solutions, particularly Excel and other small automation such as ETL and visualization (e.g. Alteryx and PowerBI).
3. Experience in managing tax reporting or similar tax compliance roles.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the Group.
5. Attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and quality in tax calculations, reporting, and documentation.
