We are excited to be hiring a Professional Development Manager to join our fantastic Academy team. The team adopts a hybrid approach and is based in Leatherhead although is a countywide service.
About the Role
This role sits within the Adults Academy, a vital countywide service that supports the workforce across the Adults Wellbeing and Health Partnership Directorate in all its learning and development needs.
We are seeking a registered Social Worker to lead on the professional, learning, and development needs of social workers and unregistered staff within Adult Social Care at Surrey County Council, as well as to support Academy staff in nurturing our workforce. The Professional Development Manager role is pivotal to implementing our strategic policies and fostering a high-quality, well-supported workforce. This dynamic and rewarding position is highly visible within the service. You should be able to demonstrate your commitment to research and evidence-based practice, as well as your knowledge of diverse professional interventions. A proven track record in delivering creative solutions to overcome obstacles and ensure value for money is essential.
In this role, you will monitor and respond to upcoming legislation, practice, and policy changes, allowing you to design and implement proactive initiatives that elevate professional practice in Adult Social Care across Surrey. You'll provide visible leadership within the service, actively promoting a culture of continuous professional and learning improvement while ensuring adherence to national recommendations and employer standards. You will also be responsible for managing staff on the trainee scheme and leading the ASYE scheme within the directorate.
Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:
* Extensive post registration professional experience as an Occupational Therapist, either working in a local authority or a community based multi agency environment
* Commitment to practice development, this could be as an experienced Practice Educator or Professional Supervisor
* Partnership skills as you may be required to attend local, regional, and national partnership meetings
* Excellent communication skills and professional credibility with front line staff
* Ability to work collaboratively with Managers across the Directorate, other service areas, and with partners locally and regionally
* Negotiation, influencing and leadership skills
* Ability to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision on specified practice areas, demonstrating an innovative and solution-focused approach to problem-solving
* A work style that will complement our, small, effective, and influential Academy Team
