Job summary:
The Practice Nurse Manager at Widcombe Surgery is a pivotal role responsible for leading the nursing team and ensuring the delivery of high quality, patient centred care. This role involves strategic planning, clinical oversight, and operational management to enhance patient outcomes and support the practice's objectives. The Practice Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with GPs, healthcare professionals, and administrative staff to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Management: Provide visionary leadership to the nursing team, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
2. Conduct regular team meetings, performance appraisals, and professional development sessions to ensure staff engagement and growth.
3. Develop and manage staff rotas, ensuring optimal coverage and efficient resource utilisation.
4. Mentor and support nursing staff, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.
5. Clinical Operations: Oversee the delivery of nursing services to include:
1. Meeting patients nursing care needs as identified, or where care has been transferred to the nurse by a GP or other senior clinician.
2. Initiating and maintaining health screening and promotion clinics for identified areas of the practice population, recognising when referral is necessary.
3. Deliver nurse led care including cervical cytology sampling, baby and childhood immunisations, seasonal vaccinations, contraceptive pill checks, leg ulcer management, chronic and acute wound management, and more.
4. Coordinate and manage vaccination programmes, health screenings, and chronic disease clinics.
6. Clinical Policies and Protocols: Develop, review, and update clinical policies and protocols, ensuring alignment with current regulations and best practices.
7. Infection Control: Lead infection prevention and control initiatives, ensuring compliance with national guidelines and standards.
8. Quality Assurance & Improvement: Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care, identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence based interventions.
9. Patient Care & Education: Provide direct patient care, including assessments, treatments, and health education, as needed.
10. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with GPs, healthcare professionals, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care delivery.
Qualifications:
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
* Extensive experience in a nursing leadership role, preferably within a general practice or primary care setting.
* Expertise in long term condition management and chronic disease care.
* Strong leadership, organisational, and problem solving skills.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation abilities.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
