The Radiotherapy Physics Computing Group of the Digital Department is part of a multi-disciplinary team in a large Cancer Centre. The Section consists of radiographers, scientists and engineers. Close links are maintained with the other sections within the Physics Department (Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Protection), and with the Bioengineering section, which has responsibility for the in-house maintenance of linacs. Also on site is the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre which provides CT, MR and CT-PET imaging for radiotherapy patients.
Treatment planning is performed on Pinnacle and Eclipse planning systems. The Department provides and supports its own LAN (“Medical Equipment LAN” or MEL) to provide an integrated Aria Radiotherapy Network to transfer treatment parameters and images between the various pieces of equipment in a secure fashion, as well as to streamline the patient flow.
You will be a part of a team providing IT services and you will assist in development and delivery of training and support to all users of systems and applications implemented within the department.
In addition, you will receive 15% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436.
Responsibilities:
1. Investigate technical/functional issues raised by users and ensure that they are resolved to the satisfaction of all parties and do not compromise the operation and security of systems or applications.
2. Plan and manage the implementation of hardware and software solutions as required with internal and external parties to minimize disruption to treatment delivery.
3. Assist in the testing of the MEL following repair or upgrade to ensure the safety of patient treatment, including sign off for clinical use.
4. Develop solutions to IT problems using a range of tools and techniques to deliver best-fit solutions.
5. Design and specify equipment to meet service needs including appropriate sourcing of quotations.
6. Provide advice and training for physics, radiography and medical staff on the Aria Patient Management System either directly in response to a support call or indirectly via provision of training.
7. Act as an operator under the definitions of IR(ME)R, in accordance with Trust Policies and Practices.
