PS Recruitment are supporting our client to obtain a Waking Night Support Worker to support a 34-year-old gentleman who has suffered a traumatic brain injury. The gentleman suffered an acquired brain injury as the result of a road traffic accident. He is now wheelchair bound and has a PEG in-situ for medication; however, his parents administer medications at present. He does eat and drink orally, and he has an Eyegaze for communication with staff, family, and MDT.
The gentleman lives in his own home in Widnes (family originally from Liverpool).
The gentleman needs assistance with all daily living tasks. The successful candidate will be assisting him with his choices and ability to lead his life as independently as possible, including support with trips and occasional holidays. There will be input from therapists, which the successful candidate will be expected to assist with. The successful candidate will be required to assist with all personal care, which will include the use of a hoist and other moving & handling equipment.
Support Duties to Include:
1. To work with a gentleman in his own home and in the community, and assist him with all tasks he is unable to achieve independently.
2. To ensure that the client’s needs influence and inform all care and support provided, that he is kept safe, and his rights, independence, and interests are protected at all times;
3. To work within the guidelines set out in the contract of employment;
4. To assist in all aspects of personal care, and enable the client to maintain his appearance;
5. To provide assistance, motivation, support, and encouragement to aim towards a more independent lifestyle for the client;
6. To travel with, and act as driver for, the client and accompany him to social or other activities, including for therapeutic care;
7. To monitor and support agreed rehabilitation techniques and strategies;
8. To complete domestic activities for the client, including cooking, cleaning, washing, and ironing his clothes;
9. To complete daily records as directed by the Case Manager including time sheets, communication sheets, daily finance documents (once implemented).
10. To liaise closely with other professionals/therapists as directed by the Case Manager;
11. To maintain client confidentiality and diplomacy, including in record keeping and discussions concerning the client;
12. To participate in regular reviews as directed by the Case Manager;
13. To undertake training, supervision, and appraisals as arranged by the Case Manager;
14. In an emergency, stand in for other members of staff if the client would otherwise be at risk or suffer harm;
15. To set a good example to new team members and take on a mentoring role where necessary;
16. Any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client and Case Manager.
17. To report, as soon as practicable, accidents and untoward incidents.
Essential Requirements for this role include:
* To have worked with adults with complex needs, for a minimum of 6 months.
* Able to drive a car and have a clean and valid full UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements for this role include:
* A minimum of an NVQ Level 2 in Social Care or Care Certificate.
* To have worked with clients with brain injury (training can be provided).
* To have an interest in/a knowledge of football.
* An understanding and knowledge of using communication aids.
* Competent in water to assist with swimming therapy.
