Head of Sustainability – Infrastructure & Engineering £80,000-£90,000, Car Allowance, Healthcare, Benefits About the Role An opportunity has arisen for an experienced sustainability professional to lead a specialist team overseeing environmental and social sustainability initiatives within infrastructure, engineering, and civil projects across the UK. The Team The successful candidate will join an established SHEQ team, supporting multiple business units, projects, and contracts nationwide. The sustainability division comprises regional advisors who provide tailored environmental and social sustainability guidance. Key Responsibilities As Head of Sustainability, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering the overall business strategy for environmental and social sustainability, overseeing performance, compliance, and team leadership. Key duties include: Managing and supporting a team of regional sustainability advisors/managers. Leading the development and implementation of corporate sustainability objectives and targets. Overseeing data collation and reporting in line with client and regulatory requirements. Providing strategic input for pre-qualification and tender submissions. Supporting environmental permitting processes related to flood risk, conservation, noise, and heritage. Ensuring compliance with relevant environmental and sustainability legislation. Engaging with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency, local authorities, and conservation agencies. Advising and supporting project teams on sustainability-related matters. Leading sustainability-related components of the Business Management System (ISO 14001). Conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations. Representing the company at industry forums and client meetings. Delivering internal training and corporate sustainability communications. Candidate Requirements The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a senior sustainability role within civil engineering and infrastructure projects, with expertise in legal and contractual aspects of environmental and social sustainability. Essential qualifications and experience: Relevant environmental qualification (degree/diploma/HNC/HND). Experience in sustainability management within civil engineering (ideally rail or infrastructure). Chartered membership of IEMA or an equivalent professional body.
