Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) We are looking for an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). The role is based within our dedicated AMHP Hub based at the Civic Centre, Southampton and we require the post holder to participate in the 24 hours AMHP rota as part of the team. As a registered Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Clinical Psychologist with a valid AMHP warrant, you will join our dedicated AMHP team based in the city of Southampton. Within the team, you will undertake the statutory duties of an AMHP under the Mental Health Act 1983. If you hold the necessary qualifications, you will have the opportunity to participate in the BIA rota and will be required to provide Social Supervision to conditionally discharged patients. The ability to travel across the city and the outside the city is essential. About you: A broad knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, Code of Practice and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 are essential, and you should have the confidence to undertake Mental Health Act assessments in a variety of settings, whilst managing your time and conflicting demands. Excellent communication skills, record keeping and experience in managing recent adult safeguarding enquiries are all essential. You will be supporting service users, their carers, and a range of professionals from internal and external agencies. Our rota pattern will require you to work a variety of shifts, including earlies (0700-1600), lates (1400-2300), and twilights (1700-0200), as well as some Bank Holidays, weekends and being on call from your twilight (from 0200-0700 - for which an on call/standby by payment is made). In return, you can expect a supportive working environment and shift enhancements to cover your unsocial working (currently 15% of your salary plus on call payments), in addition to, we also pay our AMHP a £2000 Market Supplement, paid monthly. About the team: The AMHP Hub is a small team of dedicated and supportive AMHPs, from both social work and mental health nursing backgrounds. We are one of the leading AMHP services in the country, who have 4 qualified mental health nurses who work as AMHPs. We are also building up our team of Community AMHPs who participate in the community rota where and when required. You will: Be a qualified and registered health or care professional (Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Psychologist (with chartered status) or Registered Nurse - Mental Health or Learning Disability) Have a current AMHP warrant and be able to provide evidence of meeting AMHP competencies. Have experience of working with individuals with mental health needs or learning disability and have the ability to undertake holistic assessments, work autonomously, and undertake independent decision-making. Recent experience in managing section 42 Care Act 2014 safeguarding enquiries Be able to develop good working partnerships with other agencies, including primary and secondary health services, the private and voluntary sectors. Have a willingness to promote a service which is responsive and user-focused at all times, critically reflecting on one’s own practice to achieve the best outcome for service users Have strong communication skills and experience of working under pressure. Have a positive attitude to professional development and commitment to continuing professional development. Trained as a Social Supervisor (highly desirable) Trained as a BIA (desirable) We will provide you with: Regular supervision and team support, including reflective peer groups.
