Are you looking for a senior leadership opportunity within hospital pharmacy?
A new role has been created in our management structure to oversee the clinical pharmacy service delivered to our very busy Medicine care group in order to provide expert, high quality pharmacist leadership and transformational support to our existing service.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and working closely with an experienced pharmacy leadership team, you will line manage dedicated teams at York consisting of B8A specialist pharmacists in acute (including ED) and frailty medicine who are supported by fixed and rotating B7 & B6 pharmacists. Supporting these teams are excellent medicine management pharmacy technicians and assistants who promote the safe use of medicines for patients at every stage in their journey through the busy hospital sites.
The successful candidate will be demonstrably highly motivated and will have excellent communication, problem-solving & time management skills. More importantly, you will have the enthusiasm and ability to work collaboratively with the Medicine care group to review and lead improvements to our pharmacy services to ED, acute & frailty medicine across both sites.
The role is based at York for direct staff management but you will work closely with the Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Services based at Scarborough to ensure equity of pharmacy service delivery in these areas to the Medicine care group.
Main duties of the job
Be a visible pharmacy leader and role model with the accountability and responsibility for the provision and development of safe, effective and cost effective pharmacy services to Medicine – Acute & Frailty.
* Develop a strategic plan for the operational delivery of clinical pharmacy services to these areas supporting a positive patient experience and the medicines optimisation agenda.
* Seek and implement timely initiatives and policies to improve quality, safety, performance, service delivery and patient flow.
* Work as an independent prescriber on in-patient wards and act as a DPP for the pharmacy independent prescribers.
* Promote the safe, rational and cost effective use of medicines, working closely with nursing, medical staff and healthcare managers.
The post includes participation in working the weekend (1 in 8), bank holiday (1 per year) and on-call rotas. On call working frequency (from home) is only approx. 1 in 30.

Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
* First degree in Pharmacy (Masters) or equivalent.
* Registration as a Pharmacist in the UK through Pharmacist Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Post Graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant to the specialist service.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Computer literacy including Pharmacy applications.
* Management training.
Experience & Knowledge Required
* Wide experience of pharmacy including participation at a senior level in delivery of the specialist service.
* Experience of staff management and motivation.
* Providing advice, information and support to clinical directorates.
* Thorough knowledge of the specialist service in secondary care and the ‘bigger picture’ - how it impacts on primary care and key issues for other stakeholders.
* National standards and any medicines management standards relevant to the specialist area.
* A general awareness of the Medicines Management framework, and of Clinical Governance.
* Recent experience in hospital pharmacy relating to the specialist service.
* Experience of medicines management service development and quality improvement.
* Good standard of specialist knowledge in at least one clinical speciality.
