Job Opportunity
As a Vessel Fire Safety Officer, you will be working in a sensitive defence contract environment protecting people and assets from injury and loss caused by fire or accident. You will also be reducing reputational or financial loss and the protection of information and assets in or around the premises, providing an outstanding service ensuring the team’s operational success and service delivery.
As part of a team, the Vessel Fire Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring protection of personnel and assets, which dictates that you must be able to access, work, and egress in confined spaces. You will be required to maintain a level of personal fitness necessary to carry out the duties of the role and you will also be required to pass a medical exam. You must be able to access, egress and work in the dark, at heights, in confined spaces, and wear breathing apparatus. The job is shift-based, 365 days of the year.
There may be instances where there are requirements to work in challenging environments, including but not limited to work at height, confined spaces including partial or total darkness, and work outdoors. But this is where your training supports you.
Responsibilities
* Ensuring that all hot work is conducted in accordance with the Hot Work Permit requirements.
* Checking for general fire issues such as gas location and identification, flammable substances quantities, storage and use, etc., and being aware of all gases that are in use.
* Ensure that all cables & equipment are well protected and carry out a thorough inspection of the area, neighbouring areas, and behind bulkheads prior to commencement of any hot work.
* Ensure that all safety signs and warning notices are visible, appropriate, and adhered to. Being conversant in the safe use of all hand-portable fire-fighting equipment on-board and fire-fighting equipment external to the vessel and taking responsibility for their serviceability.
* Liaising with all trades is an essential aspect of Fire watch duties and being aware of all flushing and testing of systems, stopping such tests prior to hot work.
* Any other duties within their capability as directed by the Fire Manager.

* 5-year checkable work history
* Hold British passport for the past 5 years
* Good team player
* First Aid at Work
* Ability to work on your own after appropriate training.
* Good understanding of Health and Safety at work.
