Job summary This is an innovative post for an individual looking to develop their role in a dynamic and well-equipped Acute Medicine Unit. The service is delivered on the Emergency Floor, and we are at an exciting point in time with a brand new stand alone Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit under construction, expected to open April 2025 in Munro Unit at St Richard's Hospital. We recently recruited two new Acute Medical Consultants and are keen to expand our team further to help us in future service development including medical high care. We therefore have a number of areas ripe for service development, and we encourage applicants to discuss the model with our current team. We aim to provide first class care for our patients from arrival, ensuring rapid access to the right service at the right time. The post-holder will join the highly motivated consultants at an exciting time of development and will be supported in helping the department evolve further. Across both UEC West sites, the Acute Medicine team share objectives, and work to develop deliverable pathways. The successful applicant will play a major role in the design and delivery of future services within a forward looking and well-resourced team. Main duties of the job The appointed consultant will be a committed team member striving to improve, deliver good patient care and respond to ongoing challenges in Acute Medicine.Full-time / Part-time including participation in a 10.0 PA job planThe clinical duties of the post include the following:- Post take ward rounds, patient reviews (which includes review of results as well as seeing patients and their relatives),- Once weekly evening consultant review shift,- Supporting junior doctors,- Facilitating discharges,- Service development,- Clinical and managerial leadership. The nature of the Emergency Floor concept means that there is less demarcation between types of DCC activity then in more traditional posts, and this is reflected in the Job Plan, and the ways of working within the team, allowing for attendance at MDT meetings, x-ray discussions, and case presentations. The Emergency Floor rota is designed to provide a good balance between non-clinical and clinical time ensuring continuity and logical allocation of roles during the day. We are currently working to improve the consultant review time in line with National Guidance.
