We are currently looking for a Carbon Accounting & Reporting Manager to join the Strategy & Regulation function in Yorkshire Water.
This is a permanent opportunity, working full time, 37 hours per week between a working window of 8:00am-6:00pm Monday to Friday.

Where you fit in:
As our Carbon Accounting & Reporting Manager, you will ensure all data related to our greenhouse gas emissions’ measurement and reporting is complete, accurate and robustly controlled. You will collate and analyse data from all internal and external data sources as required to fulfil our monthly and annual reporting requirements.
In support of the Manager of Net Zero Carbon, you will also play a role in:
• Driving the business to be a leader in carbon management and to deliver its bold commitments to reduce carbon emissions and net zero operational carbon emissions by 2030.
• Support cultural change for the business as we strive towards net zero.
• Shape and embed net zero carbon across Yorkshire Water to manage priority short- and long-term risks and opportunities so we can continue our essential water and wastewater services for the long term, at an affordable price for customers.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role are as follows -
Own carbon accounting and reporting activities, driving progress across the business. This will include:
o Engaging key data owners across our business to improve data quality and ensure timely and accurate reporting of our greenhouse gas emissions in alignment to recognised accounting standards and international standards for reporting emissions.
o Analysing data and compiling our operational carbon footprint, building forecast scenarios; identifying risks and opportunities; and helping to align our carbon reduction plans to external best practice.
o Working with the Manager of Net Zero Carbon and other internal stakeholders to develop detailed, costed carbon reduction plans aligned to the delivery of our carbon reduction commitments.
o Collaborating with regional and national networks to share our work, learn from latest developments and shape the water industry approach to carbon management.
Providing high-quality carbon data (and corresponding narrative) for use in external publications, including reports for regulators and investors, based on Yorkshire Water’s Carbon Accounting Workbook, the standard water industry tool for carbon reporting (for which training will be provided).
Liaising with internal and external auditors to ensure our data is robust and independently verified to carbon standards/frameworks such as ISO14064-1.
Continually developing knowledge to become a company subject matter expert on sustainability data and reporting with particular emphasis on carbon management. Using this knowledge to provide specialist advice and to raise awareness and drive performance across our business.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
• Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, eg - Science or Accounting.
• Ability to take ownership for carbon accounting and reporting activities, to engage effectively with data owners and ensure complete, accurate, credible and auditable data related to greenhouse gas emissions.
• Substantial expertise in designing/critiquing accounting processes and controls, and mitigating control weaknesses.
• It would be desirable if you have a recognised accounting qualification and interest and ability to apply this knowledge to sustainability in particular greenhouse gas accounting.
• Knowledge and experience of carbon accounting standards such as ISO14064-1, sustainability legislation, management issues and best practices particularly related to carbon management and delivery of net zero carbon emissions would be advantageous
• Knowledge and experience of working with the UK water industry Carbon Accounting Workbook (CAW) would be desirable
• Substantial experience in ensuring accurate compliance-driven performance reporting, with corresponding narrative as appropriate.
• Experience of analysing data and creating clear management information to inform decisions.
• Ability to adapt processes, controls and reporting to new or changing accounting and reporting standards and requirements.
• Strong written and verbal presentation skills, with proven ability to clearly package data and reports in ways which are accessible to different audiences.
• Ability to engage and influence colleagues at all levels of authority.

We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires 1-2 days in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
