Job summary Applications are invited for a motivated and hardworking Associate Practitioner to join a team of transfusion staff delivering one of the UK's largest hospital blood transfusion services, providing support for Addenbrooke's haematological, surgical, obstetrics and the regional major trauma centre. Consequently the department deals with major blood loss on a daily basis. The department processes around 60,000 blood groups and associated antibody investigations annually and issues around 70,000 blood products. You will be primarily responsible for the management of cold chain equipment and blood stocks, performing and entering the result of transfusion investigations and communication with a range of service users including clinical staff and the National Blood Service. A comprehensive 24/7 shift system is in place which you will be expected to participate in. Main duties of the job To monitor and maintain the cold chain of blood and blood components. To interrogate and maintain clinical records in relation to activities carried out. To perform serological investigations under supervision. To select and issue blood components (e.g. platelets, plasma and cryoprecipitate) for transfusion into patients according to departmental SOPs. To participate in training and supervision of less experienced staff. To work flexibly in reflection of service needs. This will include participation in the out of hours shift rota as required.
