Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
You will contribute to a department that handles 16,500 histology and 1,100 non-gynaecological specimens annually, along with performing 250 post-mortems. Our department operates with a focus on subspecialist reporting, while non-specialist cases are shared among the team. Workload is carefully managed through the Royal College workload scoring system, ensuring a balanced and safe environment. As a valued member of our team, you'll benefit from daily case discussions and a collaborative approach to complex cases. Opportunities for specialisation and career development will be discussed.
Teaching & Training: You will have the opportunity to mentor one Specialty Trainee, fostering the next generation of experts.
Post-Mortem Opportunities: Autopsies are performed for HM Coroner and as part of consent procedures. However, we also welcome applications from candidates who prefer not to perform post-mortems.

Qualifications
* FRCPath
* If an applicant is UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Registration with GMC
* Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* Experience with a wide range of general histopathology.
* Registration with RCPath online portfolio.
Participation in appraisal
* Willingness to participate in annual appraisal scheme.
Evidence of audit
* Audit of other quality improvement activity.
* Experience in and commitment to clinical audit.
Participation in teaching
* Willingness to teach pathology trainees, scientists, and undergraduates.
* Demonstration of an interest and commitment to teaching.
Experience/Clinical Skills
* Evidence of experience in Histopathology suitable for working in a district general hospital.
* Ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems: demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach.
* Knowledge and application of up-to-date evidence-based practice.
Management Experience
* Ability to perform effectively as a member of a team, including a multidisciplinary team.
