This is an exciting, interesting and challenging role within Government Security at high profile and technically complex Defence sites, other Government Departments and Critical National Infrastructure security programs. The Senior System Designer, is part of the new SSG Security Systems Design Team (SSDT). Reporting to the SSDT Team Leader. The role requires technical expertise in construction and engineering to support good design in project and programme delivery, including design advice on MoD standardised designs and SSG design guidance. The monitoring of design use and innovation, acting to promote good design through experience of projects and industry practice to SSG stakeholders and such advice and support to SSG Project Management community and wider Operational Delivery Teams. As well as providing technical assurance and advice on designs as independent subject matter expert for the SSG on Design and Build projects. The Senior Systems Designer will provide customer interface and represent SSG at high level meetings, undertake complex discussions and negotiations with SSG Project Managers, Client Security Authorities and Stakeholders. You will line manage the dedicated “in-house” SSDT Design Project Manager and sub-contractors to deliver unique and complex projects during their lifecycles. As part of the Security Systems Design Team, the Senior Designer shall assist SSG (Operations) Project Managers from start to finish of projects, including compliance with standards, developing ideas, conducting research and helping to ensure projects meet their deadlines. You will be responsible for setting and delivering effective System Designs and Technical Specifications in conjunction with SSG Operations Project Managers, ensuring all stages of project plans and schedules design elements are delivered to time, cost and quality. The Senior Designer shall assist the SSDT Team Leader in the implementation of projects, reporting all risks and issues and assisting the SSDT Team Leader in presenting recommendations for consideration and approval for novel and contentious designs to the SSG Higher Management Group. Work is predominately at SSG Customer’s sites across UK geographic regions and overseas. This will involve regular and frequent periods of detached duty overseas. You will be offered the provision of a non-liveried company vehicle to work in your region including personal use (eligible for taxable benefit). In addition, due to operational requirements, there will be a necessity for detached duty to other SSG regions (in the UK/overseas) or be required to stay overnight at sites that are unsuitable distances from home address.
