Reporting to the General Counsel and Data Protection Officer, you will be responsible for supporting continued compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
As the Assistant Data Protection Officer, you will be required to provide clear and practical privacy advice across the growing business in relation to new initiatives and projects, including digital developments. You will also be responsible for monitoring and implementing legislative changes, developing key policies and guidelines, managing data breaches, completing internal reporting, and providing training and education to stakeholders.
This role is a 9-month Fixed Term Contract maternity cover.
Key responsibilities:
* Responsible for achieving data protection compliance and meeting regulatory and contractual standards across the business compatible with organisational ethics, values, objectives, and the strategic plan.
* Acting as intermediary between relevant stakeholders, including the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), data subjects, and business units within Elysium.
* Acting as Elysium’s focal point for data protection and information governance activities and foster a good data protection culture within the organisation.
* Implement and oversee systems and controls to ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
* Create and deliver training and education to staff on the requirements of data protection and the handling of personal data.
* Undertake periodic data protection audits to assess Elysium’s compliance with data protection requirements and ensure any identified deficiencies are addressed.
* Promote data protection awareness and ensure staff and organisational compliance with the data protection legislation, Caldicott Principles and patient information security.
* Provide input on the data protection implications for projects, business development, acquisitions and development of IT systems.
* Advise on data transfers and data sharing, use of data processors and ensure data processing agreements meet regulatory requirements and are in place with third parties handling personal data.
* Prepare board reports that cover the effectiveness of Elysium’s data protection arrangements and make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Proven ability to interface effectively with regulators, legal advisors, and internal and external stakeholders.
* Previous practical experience of management of data protection at senior level with excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks and manage your own workload.
* Track record of delivering on a range of data protection programmes within a commercial environment.
* Demonstrable experience developing and delivering a strategic plan.
* Detailed knowledge of applicable and relevant data protection legislation, including GDPR.
* Experience in managing and reporting data breaches/incidents.
* Exceptional communication and influencing skills and ability to act as advocate for establishing the privacy programme throughout the business.
* Knowledge and experience of risk management.
* Ability to provide commercially astute risk-based advice and recommendations for business.
