Job Overview
We are a small family-run firm established almost 40 years ago. Due to increased contracts, we need a HGV & Commercial Vehicle Mechanic / Fitter who is highly motivated and able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be based in a busy workshop environment and will be required to undertake all levels of maintenance, repairs, and major overhauls as well as completing standard servicing, inspections, and diagnostics.
The role is Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm. There is overtime when required. You will take a turn on call every 5 weeks, which will be 24/7 for 7 days (any call outs during that time will be paid a call out fee & overtime if out of hours).
Responsibilities & Requirements
* Ensure that all vehicles are maintained, serviced, and managed appropriately.
* Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
* Diagnose and repair vehicle problems, including engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and electrical issues.
* Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex issues.
* Have the ability to work to specified deadlines.
* Ensure all compliance details are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
* Keep accurate records of all work performed and parts used.
* Communicate with customers about vehicle issues and repair recommendations.
* Maintain a clean and organized work area.
* Have good housekeeping skills and a basic knowledge of H&S requirements.
* Keep up-to-date with the latest automotive technology and repair techniques.
* Be capable of following the repair process from fault analysis to completion.
Experience
The ideal candidate will be fully qualified and experienced within the HGV & Commercial Vehicle Mechanic / Fitter role. Having a HGV driving licence is beneficial but not essential.
