Job overview
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated substance use practitioner to join the FIRST Service. This role focuses on the delivery and development of substance interventions as part of individualised recovery plans.
You will need to demonstrate an understanding of secure care, with a sound knowledge base of the complexities of working with co-existing mental illness and problematic substance use.
The post will require cross-site working and into community settings across the region, working closely with a range of teams in the development and implementation of care pathways. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the delivery of training and education of others.
Main duties of the job
1. Work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists, Substance Use Practitioners, and wider team/s to achieve high quality, evidence-based, integrated, recovery-oriented support.
2. Ensure the delivery of services that meet FIRST team objectives for optimal mental health, physical health, and social well-being.
3. Contribute to evidence-based, structured interventions for individuals with problematic drug and alcohol use, including 1:1 and group interventions.
4. Encourage positive therapeutic retention and engagement in support offered, with clear recovery goals focusing on sustainable recovery, integration, and planned discharge from secure services and FIRST.
5. Participate in harm reduction interventions.
6. Provide evidence-based relapse prevention interventions and onward referral to partners, other relevant partnership agencies, peer mentors, and signposting to mutual aid groups where appropriate.
7. Support the delivery of NA groups that happen on different sites on Tuesday evenings.

Person specification
Experience
* A good knowledge base of the complexities of working with co-existing mental illness and problematic substance use.
* Relevant post-registration experience managing a caseload in a multidisciplinary team within a health environment.
* Experience of working in a prison/forensic setting/criminal justice system.
Skills
* Good knowledge of recovery-based models within drug/alcohol use.
* Excellent knowledge of drug/alcohol treatment systems that make up an integrated recovery model.
Qualifications
* An experienced substance use clinician with substantial experience of delivering interventions for substance use.
* Registered RMN/RGN or equivalent professional qualification.
* Educated to degree level with equivalent relevant experience in specialist services.
