About the Role:
Hastings Borough Council is seeking a dedicated Finance Officer (Debtors) to join our Finance Department on a 6-month fixed term contract.
This role is crucial in ensuring that all income due to the Council is collected promptly and accounted for accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage and escalate overdue debts, collaborating with the Legal team to pursue payments.
· Ensure timely issuance of invoices and reminders for rents, fees, and other Council services.
· Provide detailed financial reconciliations and balance accounts with the Council’s financial ledger.
· Maintain high standards of audit compliance within your responsibilities.
· Assist in the development and implementation of new financial processes, contributing to continuous improvement.
· Act as a key customer contact, fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
· Provide training and guidance to Council officers on financial processes.

About You:
We are looking for someone with a strong background in financial transactions and a proven track record in delivering customer-focused financial services. You will have excellent organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure, and a commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
Essential Requirements:
5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) including Maths and English.
Experience in a financial services environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Strong knowledge of financial systems and procedures.
Desirable:
AAT Level 4 or equivalent.
Experience with Unit 4 Business World.
Knowledge of public sector finance.
