Principal Consultant (Peatland Restoration)

Role Overview: Eden Scott is supporting their consultancy client in appointing a Principal Consultant to join their Environmental and Consents team, focusing on peatland restoration projects.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as the technical lead for peatland assessments and restoration projects, providing advice on onshore renewable/restoration projects.
2. Coordinate, deliver, and ensure quality assurance of hydrology team inputs (soils, peat, hydrogeology, and hydrology) to EIAR renewables projects.
3. Oversee the coordination and quality assurance of EIAR supporting documents, including management plans.
4. Mentor and develop team staff.
5. Engage in business development activities.
General Responsibilities:
1. Ensure on-time, on-quality, and on-budget delivery of projects.
2. Manage internal and external resources effectively.
3. Conduct financial reporting as per contract requirements.
4. Schedule and prioritize projects.
5. Assign tasks to relevant personnel.
6. Write and review technical reports and deliverables according to client standards.
7. Perform QA checks on written materials produced by the team.
8. Liaise with senior team members for support and final approval in the QA process.
9. Utilize project tools to ensure deliverability to required timescales.
10. Advise clients on appropriate routes to meet their objectives.
Managing and Mentoring Staff:
1. Line management of staff and leadership of a significant team/discipline.
2. Proactively lead within the department.
3. Ensure appropriate team utilization and resourcing.
4. Assist directors in managing the wider sub-team.
5. Implement mentoring and succession planning.
Technical Expertise:
1. Lead in peat assessment and restoration.
2. Ensure adherence to up-to-date peat management practices.
3. Contribute to EIAR chapters and management plans.
4. Manage technical deliverables and the hydrology team.
Business Development:
1. Support business development by preparing and reviewing proposals.
2. Contribute to tender submissions.
3. Identify potential future work streams.
4. Enhance client profile through presentations and publications.
5. Build a network of client and industry relationships.
Training:
1. Stay updated on relevant legislation and best practices.
2. Maintain knowledge of the renewable energy industry.
3. Identify and attend conferences or training courses.
4. Undertake continued professional development and work towards chartership.
5. Support team members in developing competencies and training needs.
6. Enforce Health and Safety regulations within the department.
