An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, or as a Band 5-6 development post for someone with experience in this clinical area to join our innovative and supportive Adult SALT team.
The successful candidate will work within the C-Magic (Cheshire and Merseyside Gender Identity Collaborative) multidisciplinary team. The role will involve offering gender affirming voice and communication interventions in a 1:1 or group setting with the support and supervision of senior colleagues in the field and from Voice Specialist Speech and Language Therapy colleagues.
We are a progressive department who are well-respected by our medical, nursing and AHP colleagues. As part of the recently merged Liverpool foundation trust our service provides input to inpatients across 3 hospital sites, and outpatients services to ENT, respiratory, head and neck cancer and stroke patients. We are the drivers of a number of local policies and projects, and to ensure best practice, we work collaboratively as a department; attending CENs, SIGs and working parties with other teams regionally and beyond.
We have regular team meetings and are committed to continuing professional development. You will have access to advanced dysphagia, critical care, head and neck, voice and ILO specialists across teams.
Band 6 employees provide clinical roles and lead on projects, and are required to supervise junior therapists, assistant staff and students. You will be encouraged to support service development through participation in internal and external projects.

To provide Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to people who are referred for gender affirming voice and communication therapy in remote and face-face outpatient settings.
Be an active member of the multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best
possible service for patients and their families.
Undertake assessment of patients, using specialist clinical reasoning and assessment techniques to differentially diagnose then formulate and implement treatment plans with advice and support from seniors as required.
Continually evaluate the efficacy of the treatment programme to ensure that it is meeting the needs of the patient
Monitor the effectiveness of the interventions you are providing using outcome measures.
Work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team – attending meetings/case conferences where possible, actively encouraging information sharing to enhance the quality of care to patients and staff.
Ensure effective communication with patients, carers and other Health Care Professionals regarding all aspects of the patient’s care. This will be achieved through direct liaison or written information using specialist knowledge, tailored to individual needs and taking account of impaired comprehension and expression.
Advise assist and support, less experienced therapists and assistants in the management of their caseload.
Undertake research as requested by team leader.
Collect patient data and other statistics as required by Head of Department.
Advise the Head of Department of any change in caseload profile which has an impact on the service provided to facilitate planning.
Monitor equipment and material for condition and suitability.
The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.
The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation.
Maintain registration with the Health Professions Council and the RoyalCollege of Speech & Language Therapists.
Adhere to RCSLT standards and guidelines relating to Clinical Practice(Communicating Quality 2) patients with acquired disorders.
Adhere to HCPC guidelines for professional conduct.
Be involved in carrying out audit as requested.
Ensure assessment methods and treatment techniques comply with the best available clinical evidence/consensus practice.
Comply with departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
Be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patients’ records in line with Trust and Departmental Standards of Practice.
Advise on complaints when patient is known to you to facilitate manager’s response.
Comply with the Data Protection Act and Caldicott recommendations.
Ensure working practices and use of resources complies with current legislative and Trust Health and Safety Policies.
Attend Mandatory Training – fire, CPR and manual handling as specified by the Trust.
Ensure all accidents, incidents and hazards are dealt with effectively and reported according to Trust requirements.
Education and training development
Be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD
activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
Develop clinical skills whilst recognising personal limitations and referring to specialist colleagues when appropriate.
Identify evidence of good practice continually updating and developing your knowledge of evidence-based practice for acquired disorders.
Attend relevant postgraduate training courses. Disseminate course information as required.
Complete yearly appraisal and a Personal Development Plan with manager.
Provide training and teaching to SLT students/assistants, other professional groups in the Trust, local agencies and voluntary services.
