The Company
Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, located in North Lincolnshire, is a key asset of the Prax Group, a British multinational energy conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels and is the only British refiner remaining in the UK energy market.
The refinery processes up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (up to 113,000 barrels a day) and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

The Candidate
Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery is seeking graduate calibre candidates to join our Shift Operations Teams. These roles are ideal for individuals who are committed, eager to contribute, and thrive in hands-on, manual roles. Candidates should have a strong Mechanical aptitude and be prepared to work as part of a shift team to ensure the smooth running of refinery process & conversion units and logistics areas.
You must be safety focused, self-motivated, and enthusiastic individuals, who have a proactive and flexible approach to work. You must be able to demonstrate that you are a team player with effective communication and organisational skills and a practical approach to problem solving.
This position provides an excellent career pathway towards Senior Shift Operator, Shift Supervisor or other management opportunities within the refinery.
The Role
Key Activities:
1. Monitor and Operate Equipment: Regularly checks and operates plant and equipment, ensuring they meet production standards and schedules.
2. Chemical Handling: Safely handles chemicals, ensuring proper storage and off-loading.
3. Report Issues: Identifies and reports faults or damages to plant and equipment during inspections.
4. Maintenance Preparation: Prepares equipment for maintenance, including SIOPE procedures.
5. Start-up/Shutdowns: Participates in equipment start-up and shutdown processes.
6. Continuous Improvement: Engages in initiatives aimed at operational excellence and ongoing improvements.
7. Conditions: May involve some work at height, potentially in enclosed spaces, around hot high-speed machinery, around chemicals and petroleum products, and potentially provision of backup/support emergency duties.
Criteria & Process
Selection Process & Training Program:
1. Applicants will be required to complete aptitude tests to ensure they have requisite ability for the openings.
2. Successful candidates will undergo a comprehensive, structured training program providing detailed knowledge of the principles of refining and equipment infrastructure. After which, they will be able to successfully operate its process equipment to produce high-quality finished products, in compliance with procedures, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
3. Upon completion of the training programme, candidates will move to a permanent rotating 12-hour shift pattern working combinations of Days, Nights, Weekends and UK public holidays, with scheduled rest periods.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
To be considered for the Shift Operator Trainee positions, applicants must meet the following essential educational or qualification requirements.
1. Hold (or obtain in 2025) a degree, preferably in a Mechanical or a Chemical Engineering discipline.
2. Possess a valid UK driving licence (manual vehicle compliant).
3. Be willing to relocate to the local area.
