Job Title: Gardener (Part-Time)
Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Head of School
Job Purpose: The Part-Time Gardener will ensure that the school grounds are impeccably maintained, creating a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment for students, staff and visitors. This role requires the ability to work independently, using initiative and practical skills to manage a wide range of horticultural tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform a variety of gardening duties with minimal supervision to maintain the school grounds in excellent condition.
* Maintain and enhance the appearance of borders, planters, tubs, hedges (including those at height), and pathways.
* Prepare grounds for the planting of shrubs, plants and trees, ensuring seasonal appropriateness and visual appeal.
* Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, horticultural machinery, and powered equipment such as lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and strimmers.
* Ensure all tools and machinery are properly maintained and kept in good working order to optimise performance and safety.
* Adhere to Health and Safety regulations at all times, fostering a safe working environment for yourself and others.
* Mark out and maintain sports pitches using line-marking equipment to meet required standards.
* Participate in relevant training sessions to stay updated on best practices and enhance gardening skills.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will:
* Demonstrate a strong knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques.
* Possess practical experience in using and maintaining gardening tools and equipment.
* Exhibit attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
* Be physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Show a proactive attitude, taking ownership of responsibilities and identifying areas for improvement.
* Be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the school, including occasional tasks outside typical gardening duties.
