Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY:
Our Recovery Room is a 9-bedded unit within Main Theatres. This busy and dynamic unit admits Trauma, Maternity, Paediatrics, Emergency and General/Colorectal surgery patients.
The successful post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
1. To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care.
2. To take the lead on delegated responsibilities as defined by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
3. To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
4. In the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ward.
5. To manage a delegated group of Band 5 staff ensuring compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements.
6. To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients' feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
7. To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

Person Specification
Experience
* Significant post registration experience of working in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of co-mentoring and assessing student nurses on placement
* Evidence of skills in managing junior staff
* Evidence of experience in conducting quality audits
Education & Professional Qualifications
* First level degree in nursing or working towards
* Evidence of post-registration education/qualification relevant to specialty
Skills and Attitudes
* Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty
* Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence
* Skilled in use of computer/keyboard
* Knowledge of clinical governance issues e.g. handling complaints, clinical risk management
* Ability to problem-solve, prioritise and to work to deadlines
* Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multi professional teams
* Able to manage stressful situations and challenge decisions to ensure that patient needs are met
* Able to lead, manage and motivate others in complex problem solving and assessment skills
