SEN Teacher

Job Overview:
As a SEN School Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality education and support to students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Planning and Delivery:
o Develop and implement engaging and differentiated lesson plans that meet the diverse academic and emotional needs of students with SEN.
o Adapt teaching strategies, materials, and resources to accommodate individual learning styles and abilities.
o Integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) into the curriculum to support students' emotional regulation, resilience, and interpersonal skills.
2. Individualised Support and Intervention:
o Conduct assessments to identify students' strengths, challenges, and social-emotional needs.
o Collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or behaviour support plans for students.
o Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, including social skills training, counselling, and behavioural interventions.
3. Classroom Management and Behaviour Support:
o Establish clear expectations for behaviour and create a structured and supportive classroom environment.
o Implement positive behaviour management strategies, such as de-escalation techniques, restorative practices, and reinforcement systems.
o Respond effectively to challenging behaviours, using a trauma-informed and compassionate approach.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to coordinate support and share information about students' progress and needs.
o Collaborate with colleagues, including teaching assistants, therapists, and support staff, to provide a holistic approach to student support and development.
o Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with SEN.
5. Assessment and Evaluation:
o Monitor students' academic progress, social-emotional development, and behaviour using a variety of assessment tools and observations.
o Document and maintain accurate records of students' achievements, interventions, and progress towards goals.
o Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional strategies, interventions, and support services.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching certification
* Experience working with students with SEMH in a school or similar setting
* Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, therapeutic approaches, and behaviour management techniques
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
* Resilience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting the holistic development of students with SEN
