YMCA Heart of England are looking for a JNC Qualified Youth Worker to join the team. The successful candidate will join us on a full-time, fixed-term contract for 24 months. Location: University Hospitals in Coventry, as the base site (75% of the time) and St Cross Hospital, in Rugby (25% of the time), and to participate in all UHCW and YMCA HofE team meetings. About the JNC Qualified Youth Worker role The Paediatric Diabetes service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, in collaboration with YMCA Heart of England, is seeking a dedicated JNC Qualified Youth Worker. This is a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, providing vital support to young people aged 12-19 living with diabetes. As a JNC Qualified Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in delivering educational and recreational activities, helping young people develop social, educational, and emotional skills. You will advocate for the young people, ensuring they are at the heart of the diabetes service and improving their health outcomes. Key Responsibilities as our JNC Qualified Youth Worker: Lead and deliver youth work activities, including 1:1 engagement and peer support group work. Conduct assessments to identify the needs of young people and develop appropriate support plans. Plan, coordinate, and implement creative and therapeutic activities. Collaborate with external agencies to provide suitable activities in both hospital and community settings. Ensure the safeguarding of young people, maintaining accurate records, and managing resources. Create a young person-friendly environment in diabetes clinics. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and engage with the national diabetes youth worker network. About You: You are a compassionate, motivated, and adaptable individual with a genuine respect for the ethos and values of YMCA Heart of England and the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. You possess excellent communication skills and are confident in leading sessions and challenging negative behaviours in a supportive manner. Essential Criteria: JNC Youth Work Qualification. Experience working with young people aged 12-19 in diverse backgrounds, either in a healthcare or youth/community setting. Knowledge of child protection legislation, adolescent behaviour and development, and the importance of recreation in a hospital setting.
