Job Description Summary
We are seeking a highly talented and motivated synthetic / medicinal chemist to join the Global Discovery Chemistry group at BioMedical Research (NIBR) at our Cambridge, MA site. Internal Job Title: Senior Scientist I/II
Position Location: Cambridge, MA, onsite
Your key responsibilities:
1. Independently design compounds based off team or individual hypotheses, utilize novel methodologies and technologies, and conduct multi-step syntheses of small molecules.
2. Use contemporary medicinal chemistry principles to drive science to key decision points.
3. Analyze and interpret data, solve synthetic issues, and design follow-up experiments.
4. Collaborate with peers and work effectively and efficiently as an important part of a cross-functional team.
5. Adhere to laboratory safety policies and practices.
Essential requirements:
1. BS or MS degree in organic chemistry with 5-15+ years of industrial medicinal chemistry experience in design, synthesis, and characterization of organic compounds. This is not a PhD level position.
2. A comprehensive knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods; medicinal chemistry, and digital tools and analysis for medicinal chemistry.
3. Excellence in common purification, analytical techniques, and spectroscopy (NMR, UV, MS).
4. Strong problem solving and communication skills.
5. Knowledge and efficient use of IT applications used to support the planning and execution of synthesis experiments, and communication of results.
6. A strong collaborative approach to drive the effectiveness of a drug discovery team.
Desirable Skills:
1. Experience with different drug modalities, such as peptides and oligonucleotides.
2. Familiarity with machine learning tools and various technologies.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $89,600 to $166,400/year for Senior Scientist I, and between $98,700 and $183,300 for Senior Scientist II; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.
