Principal Health and Safety Consultant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Health and Safety Consultant to join a leading organisation and help ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment across the Parks and Harbour Service.
As a proactive health and safety professional, you will provide expert advice, support, and leadership across a variety of operational settings, working closely with service managers and stakeholders to embed health and safety management systems that protect employees, volunteers, contractors, and service users.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and develop a prioritised work programme focused on health and safety within the Parks and Harbour service areas.
2. Implement and manage Health and Safety Management Systems to ensure legal compliance and best practice.
3. Provide expert guidance and advice to managers on health and safety responsibilities, ensuring practical solutions and a culture of safety.
4. Conduct risk assessments and support managers through the risk management process.
5. Take charge of accident/incident reporting and investigations, ensuring compliance with internal policies and legislation.
6. Develop and deliver health and safety offerings for service users.
7. Manage key corporate health and safety projects and areas of expertise.
8. Support internal services with health and safety matters, fostering a safe and compliant work environment.
9. Regularly analyse and interpret performance data, providing reports and recommendations to senior management.
10. Stay up to date with legislative changes and industry best practices, offering advice on potential improvements.
Key Skills and Experience:
1. Strong experience in health and safety management, ideally within natural and marine environments.
2. Proven ability to lead and implement safety management systems across multiple service areas.
3. Expertise in health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
4. Excellent communication skills, able to advise and influence at all levels.
5. Experience in managing health and safety projects and reporting on performance.
6. Ability to build constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Chartered Member of IOSH (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
2. Experience with specific health and safety assessments (e.g., HAV/Noise).
