Join the Mako IT team, which is responsible for building, operating and supporting the complex technology foundation upon which the firm's operations are built. In our team, world-class engineers and technicians work together to build and support a highly reliable, low-latency platform to enable the firm's business, as well as provide a robust and secure corporate IT environment.
The Mako Unix team is responsible for the global Unix and Linux footprint of Mako, including all co-located, low latency trading servers, core compute, workstation, developer and simulation environments. The team has full responsibility for the entire stack in order to deliver a reliable, scalable, cost effective and highly performant global platform used by Mako's trading, quant, developer and support teams. The team believes strongly in the concepts of automation, visibility, supportability and scalability.
What you'll be involved in:
1. Designing, testing, implementing, optimising, monitoring and maintaining the Unix and Linux server and workstation environments
2. Troubleshooting and solving issues in both hardware and software
3. Building and improving our real-time, low-latency trading operations across global co-location facilities, ensuring high reliability
4. Collaborating with software developers, traders and trading support teams to create industry-leading, low-latency trading systems
5. Planning and engineering for long-term capacity, disaster recovery, business continuity, and high availability
6. Supporting core trading and business software
7. Automating and improving the efficiency of the team's operations
What we need from you:
1. Experience working with Unix or Linux in a system administration or engineer capacity
2. Detailed knowledge of Unix/Linux and associated core services
3. Strong understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast, and DNS
4. Experience in scripting and automation (Python, shell scripting, Ansible, Jenkins, etc.)
5. An open-minded and innovative approach, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and high-pressure environment
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
8. Experience with ITSM tools, particularly Atlassian JIRA and Confluence
9. Experience in financial or trading environments, with an understanding of Exchange market structure and topology, is a plus
