About the Role
The Assistant Director of Engineering shall closely collaborate alongside the Director of Engineering, enriching the delivery of the Engineering Department’s operational commitments. A proactive, enthusiastic individual with pre-opening experience is required. This role involves efficiently and effectively managing the repairs and maintenance of high specification electromechanical systems, while maintaining high quality decorative furnishings and fittings within guestrooms, suites, restaurants, Spa & Wellness facilities, swimming pool, and iconic public spaces within luxury lifestyle hospitality.
1. Manage and direct all Engineering Department electro-mechanical and decorative disciplines for a fully supportive and professional ‘best practices’ for the efficient and consistent operation of the hotel.
2. Manage and drive the recruitment of top calibre talent to ensure technically competent engineering staff are selected, trained and developed into a passionate and motivated, well-qualified maintenance team.
3. Collaborate and manage the pre-opening critical path activities, seamlessly integrating into pre- and post-handover.
4. Lead and direct the snagging activities, including commissioning oversight, to synchronise phasing in of operational technical collaboration to ensure efficient support for all hotel operational departments.
5. Manage, develop and direct the planned preventive maintenance programs for all the hotel's assets, ensuring the safety and comfort of all colleagues, guests, and stakeholders.
6. Champion with passion and ownership the guestrooms, public areas, and heart of the house maintenance programs.
7. Plan, implement and manage the energy and sustainability programs by creating fit for purpose benchmark practices to achieve consistency and reliability, setting future achievable performance goals and targets.
8. Ensure the quality of all work completed by colleagues and external contracted partners adheres to local, international, and best engineering practices, and that all safety protocols and regulations are consistently applied and monitored.
9. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modelling inclusive behaviours.
10. Direct and lead guest satisfaction standards by ensuring Engineering Department technical services quickly and professionally maintain and endeavour to anticipate individual needs. Ensure the safety and comfort of guests and that any requests for service are handled in a courteous and efficient fashion.
11. Provide adherence to all statutory regulations and fire codes by regularly reviewing policies and safety procedures in coordination with local compliance regulations and standards. Ensure any inspections and checks on plant, equipment, and hotel facilities by local and statutory authorities are compliant, with all records and documentation associated with such inspections recorded and maintained.
12. Facilitate and manage the effective financial management of the engineering department by setting maintenance budgets, capital works programs, and engineering plans, ensuring that performance against these is regularly monitored and reviewed. Support and assist in the general cost control aspects of maintenance, the preparation of departmental cost budgets, and their implementation and submission.
13. Prepare and manage proactively the CAPEX & OPEX planning and implementation, in liaison with management, to ensure funding is effectively allocated and budgeted in accordance with company directives and philosophy.
14. Collaborate in developing and updating policies and manuals related to the Department for implementation in the hotel while ensuring compliance.
15. Knowledge, experience, and full conversance with statutory and local council bylaws, COSHH regulations, risk assessments, fire & bomb procedures, health and safety standards and compliance including accreditation to NEBOSH or similar equivalent.

5. Highly disciplined, focused, analytical, and possesses great interpersonal skills, especially in service orientation and delivery.
6. Has that ‘eye for detail’ and consistently delivers outstanding performance and quality standards.
