The Sr. Custom Solutions Application Engineer is responsible for optimizing the proposed design, issuing drawings, preparing all RFQ to Pall suppliers, running all the project mechanical clarifications with our suppliers, closing all the technical bid evaluations with them, issuing the project firm costing, leading the risk assessment, and OFMEA. He/She will work closely with other support departments to ensure readiness of the design, the costing solution, and drive customer satisfaction. Work under limited to minimal direct supervision – able to prioritize well the activity.
This position is part of the Custom Solution Team (CST) and will be located in Europe, reporting to the CST Manager in France. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for:
* The customer Relationships: Establish and maintain sales and key customer relationships, acting as a trusted technical advisor, reliable on commitments for design or costing delivery.
* The value proposition: Understand the client RFQ and scope requirements and set up the Pall Design value proposition in coordination with sales.
* The custom Solution: With the technology and sizing defined, select the right design to fit with the client's specification (To the Spec offer), work closely with the rest of the CST team and the sourcing/operation team to lead the cost bridge reduction for all projects.
* The technical expertise: Provide advanced technical support to customers, having deep knowledge of pressure vessel manufacturing in all steps, leading complex mechanical clarifications and closing all open points before order. Act as a trusted technical advisor, offering optimized, innovative, and customized solutions to win projects.
* The design lead: Lead the design and mechanical technical inputs of the projects, be the front runner to support the sourcing team to meet/talk to the suppliers, ensure their offers are aligned with the project specifications and on time. Actively participate in project strategy calls. Evaluate planning and technical risks, make decisions, and ensure countermeasures are in place. Lead through DBS mindset and tools.
The essential requirements of the job include:
* Mechanical engineer with experience in pressure vessel manufacturing.
* Experience in the same field of activity for technical support and knowledge of NOC specifications and large project pre-order execution.
* Fluent in English and French; other European languages will be beneficial (particularly but not limited to Italian, Spanish).
* Proficient in the use of Inventor, AutoCAD, PVLite, Outlook, SAP, Salesforce, MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
* Vessel supplier activities (thickness calculations, weight, ASME, PED, etc.).
* Energy - Chemical and Oil & Gas industry – Green activity.
* Metallurgy.
