Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it’s what’s behind every job here. Our work keeps Scotland’s water flowing, from reservoir to tap – and from sewer to treatment plant. We are the biggest reservoir owner in the UK, and we're on the lookout for a Reservoir Engineer to join our team. Our reservoir team is part of the Production Maintenance group in the EPA’s Water Service Strategy team. The Reservoir Engineer role at Scottish Water plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining the company's extensive network of dams and reservoirs. The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance and safety of reservoirs, ensuring compliance with the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011. This includes regular inspections and monitoring of water levels, leakages, repairs, and settlement. You’ll report directly to our Reservoir Team Manager, alongside five Principal Engineers/Supervising Engineers, one Supervising Engineer, one Reservoir Engineer, two Reservoir Analysts, a Graduate Engineer and a Project Co-ordinator. What You'll Do You’ll manage projects related to the construction, maintenance, and refurbishment of reservoirs. This involves coordinating with various departments and external contractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Implement measures in the interest of safety as recommended by Inspecting Engineers. This includes managing high-priority maintenance works and ensuring all safety protocols are followed. Ensure all reservoirs are registered and comply with SEPA regulations. This includes maintaining records of relevant documents, preparing flood plans, and reporting incidents to SEPA. Lastly, you’ll technical support and guidance to the Reservoir Team, including junior engineers and analysts. This involves sharing expertise and ensuring the team is well-equipped to handle their responsibilities. What You’ll Bring You will have strong project management skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, and a thorough understanding of reservoir safety and regulatory requirements. You will have a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with approximately 3 – 5 years’ experience of working on water retaining structures, dams, impounding/non-impounding reservoirs, and service reservoirs. This experience should include involvement with inspections and maintenance. Professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) is preferred but not essential. This will allow progression towards appointment to the Supervising Engineers (Scotland) Panel. You will be required to conduct regular site visits to sites across Scotland and attend inspections to monitor progress and compliance of projects. Therefore, a full UK driving licence is also essential. Looking out for you While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters.
