An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, self-motivated pharmacist to join the Pharmacy and Medicines Management Team as a clinical pharmacist.
The Inpatient Pendleview Unit is a well-established MH unit within the Pennine network and based on the same site as the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
With a total of 87 beds included on male treatment wards, female treatment wards, Old age psychiatry and a male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.
The Pendleview Unit is based on ‘safety by design’ to ensure that it can provide high quality care. The ethos of the unit is to provide therapeutic care which is empowering, person-centred and needs led, and focuses on promoting recovery and independence.
There is no current requirement to work on-call, Bank Holidays or weekends. Due to the location of various units, an ability and willingness to travel around Trust locations is required.
You will have current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
We are looking to recruit an experienced mental health pharmacist to join our friendly, innovative and supportive clinical pharmacy team.
As the successful candidate you will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality, pro-active and patient focused clinical pharmacy service to the in-patient mental health unit. Key components of the role include:
• Clinical review of prescriptions and patient-orientated medication review
• Provision of specialist pharmaceutical advice to multi-disciplinary teams
• Involvement of patients in decisions about their medicines to support adherence and improve outcomes
• Potential to utilise Non-Medical prescribing skills within the role outline
• Opportunity to influence the development of services to improve patient care through service redesign
• Participation in clinical audit and service evaluation
• Supervision of junior pharmacy staff
• Contribution to the training and development of junior pharmacy team members and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
• Participation in the clinical supervision programme
• Input to the development of policies and procedures and treatment guidelines
• Contribute to initiatives to improve medicines safety
The Trust has implemented electronic prescribing and medicines administration across all inpatients in Lancashire and has a strong track record of innovation in Health Informatics and the successful applicant will have a keen interest in the use of technology in a health care setting.
The Clinical Pharmacy service is embedded in the culture of the organisation and should you wish to join our team you will become one of a large team of Clinical Pharmacists, Clinical Medicines Management Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants working across the Trust.

Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

It is desirable, however not essential that you have a postgraduate pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience, and post registration experience in mental health.
A qualification as a Non-Medical prescriber would be desirable.
