Trainee Laboratory Technician (after training) is responsible for performing testing on petroleum samples for quantitative analysis, quality control, and process control. They are also responsible for general basic maintenance/calibration of laboratory equipment and the safety, good housekeeping, and physical maintenance/cleanliness of the laboratory.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Receiving, logging in, and generating work orders for all samples received in the laboratory.
2. Performing the required analysis.
3. Documenting each test result and maintaining neat, complete, and accurate records, including preparing corresponding quality control charts.
4. Performing quality assurance/quality control testing.
5. Calibrating and verifying each instrument as needed and maintaining it in clean working condition.
6. Maintaining and cleaning laboratory instruments, equipment, and supplies.
7. Keeping the laboratory clean and orderly.
Minimum Position Requirements:
1. Position prefers a Chemistry/Science based education.
2. Must possess basic computer, mathematics, and science skills.
3. Must demonstrate the ability to grasp new procedures quickly and be capable of working independently upon completion of training.
4. Good eyesight and able to clearly see colour changes (for Titrations) (Candidate cannot be colour blind).
5. Be able to demonstrate evidence of being able to work safely unsupervised and be goal-oriented.
6. Become familiar with ASTM/IP standard test methods during training.
7. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with employees, outside consultants, executive management, and colleagues.
8. Position eventually provides testing support for the shipping industry, which operates 24/7, 365 days per year and requires a high degree of flexibility, also involving anti-social working hours which can include days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
9. Good working understanding of safe laboratory practices and training issues (after training).
10. Clean full driving licence and meet our insurance criteria requirements.
11. Local candidate preferred; must be eligible to live/work in the UK.
