The Royal Caribbean Group’s (Marine Operations) Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Electrical Engineering Manager reporting to the Director of Marine Operations.
Position is onsite and based in Weybridge, UK.
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for providing technical support and guidance to ship management and the technical team onboard. Manage larger electrical repairs and projects. Responsible for planning and managing electrical CAR and dry-dock projects and maintenance. Manage obsolescence and compliance strategy. Follow up on technical issues, manage corrective actions and lessons learned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the Ship Managers for the assigned vessels and keep them informed about any electrical issues.
2. Propose and overlook electrical Pzero projects.
3. Coordinate all major projects with the Ship Manager and the vessel executive committee.
4. Maintain frequent communication with the technical team onboard the assigned vessels and supervise and support the repair and maintenance of the vessels' electrical systems.
5. Oversee shipboard electrical teams’ safety engagement and dedication to the fleet safety initiatives.
6. Promote improvements and follow up on all electrical safety practices and procedures.
7. Work closely with representatives from various classification societies and governing agencies which regulate the operation of our ships.
8. Conduct ship visits and inspections to verify compliance with regulations and company policy regarding the electrical aspect.
9. Oversee and support the electrical aspects of dry-dock preparations and planning of major projects.
10. Provide electrical support, supervision, and advice in connection with dry-dock, revitalization, and other special projects.
11. Oversee the electrical team work, team morale, motivation, and performance on the assigned vessels.
12. Actively participate in the electrical engineer promotion process and succession plan.
13. Work closely with HR in the electrical engineer recruiting and screening process.
14. Identify systems onboard that are or will be obsolete in the near future and propose solutions and suggestions for upgrades.
15. Manage approved upgrades.
16. Ensure that electrical related failures, incidents, and damages onboard the assigned vessels are properly investigated and root cause analysis conducted and corrective actions implemented.
17. Share the lessons learned to avoid similar issues on other vessels.
18. Follow up on all electrically related CC, non-conformities, and findings.
19. Ensure the findings are corrected and all necessary precautions are taken to prevent re-occurrence.
20. Identify existing electrical systems that should be improved to avoid potential failures.
21. Propose solutions and suggestions for improvements.
22. Follow up on vendors' technical and safety bulletins.
23. Coordinate, supervise, and oversee the corrective action implementation.
24. Supervise and support GMTS electrical riding team members.
25. Work closely with the Energy Management group with proposals, support, and validate energy efficiency initiatives.
26. Support Newbuilding Department with electrical specifications, manning, sea trials, and guarantee process for new vessels and provide electrical support for other Newbuilding projects.
27. Provide electrical support for Hotel Operations, IT, Supply Chain, PMO, and other departments.
28. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
1. Background in Electrical, Electronic, and Power Engineering and 10+ years of experience in the shipping industry, classification society, or similar.
2. Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent highly desirable.
3. Experience as a passenger vessel Chief Electrical Engineer is preferred.
4. Must demonstrate leadership, organizational and time management skills and motivate ship personnel and encourage teamwork and improvement.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.
7. Ability to manage the financial aspects of the assigned functions, including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost efficiencies.
8. Ability to manage multiple tasks within an area of responsibility.
9. Ability to participate in a staff with a positive attitude and in a productive manner by motivating, developing, and contributing to the company community.
10. Ability to utilize and cope with company resources.
11. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
