JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Chemical Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position, at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates should be interdisciplinary-minded and have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field. We especially encourage applicants with expertise at the interfaces of biomanufacturing, data science, and catalysis to complement existing and growing research efforts. WPI has top-rated interdisciplinary graduate programs in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Materials Science and Engineering, and Robotics Engineering with emerging efforts in sustainability and the circular economy.

WPI’s Chemical Engineering Department, with 15 faculty, 200+ undergraduate and 50+ graduate students, is ranked number 5 (out of 150) in the nation by College Factual – USA Today, with cutting-edge research programs in molecular bioengineering, sustainability, functional materials and catalysis. Our collegial and diverse faculty work collaboratively in providing exceptional teaching and mentoring in the context of progressive interdisciplinary research to solve some of the most complex societal problems. With a broad research and education funding profile, we offer an incredibly vibrant environment for faculty and student growth and innovation. We are housed in state-of-the-art facilities located at both Goddard Laboratories and the interdisciplinary WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park with neighboring access to PracticePoint healthcare alliance and the Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center.
Candidates should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Applicants must show potential for an innovative and sustainable research and teaching career. WPI expects faculty to be involved in a balance of research, teaching, and service activities, including mentoring student projects at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels.
