An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a multidisciplinary team of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Clinical Scientists and Engineers who are commissioned to provide a community-based service supporting patients with complex disabilities.
There is close liaison with the partner team based in Portsmouth where there is another Occupational Therapist, and joint working, support and training takes place.
The post equates to 0.6 WTE.
Hours per week: 22.5 to be worked over 3 days.
This role requires HCPC Registration.
Base Location: This post is a Community post based at Christchurch Hospital. The work mainly involves visiting patients living in Dorset but with a remit to travel into Hampshire and the Isle of Wight as required.

Main duties of the job
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessing and recommending bespoke environmental control systems to promote independence and safety. The Environmental Control systems allow the individual to control, for example, their TV, lights, telephone, and computer systems and the OT has a key role in enabling the patient to access the equipment e.g. by using different switches.
You will be supported by the team and in particular the technicians who will install the equipment solutions to the agreed specification.
Applicants will be state registered Occupational Therapists with experience of working with patients with neurological and life-limiting diagnoses and will have experience of having worked in patients' own homes carrying out functional assessments, applying problem-solving solutions, and liaising with voluntary and statutory services.
It will be useful to have an aptitude for basic technology, but training will be given on the specific environmental control systems and alternative technology that is available.
The post holder will need to be able to drive and have access to their own car for work use.
There will be opportunities to develop the role of the OT within the interdisciplinary team to enhance quality of life and experience for patients.
Job responsibilities
1. Undertake specialist occupational therapy interventions for patients with profound and complex disability to facilitate independence in their own environment by the provision of Environmental Control Systems.
2. Undertake evaluation, prescription, and monitoring of specialist technical equipment in the community, ensuring that it meets patients' clinical and functional needs.
3. Provide specialist advice to the team regarding patients' current function status, potential to use environmental control systems and how patients' needs can be met by off-the-shelf or bespoke technical equipment.
4. Provide education and training to clinical and rehabilitation teams across Dorset and Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, providing them with the knowledge and skills to identify and refer appropriate patients to the Environmental Control Service.

* Post Graduate short courses in specialism to Diploma level
* State registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council (UK).
Experience

* Post graduate experience of working with patients with complex Neurological disorders and life-limiting conditions.
* Working in the patient's own home/community. Providing equipment and modifying the environment.
* Applying advanced Occupational Therapy core skills in assessing patients' needs, identifying options, and providing equipment and environmental modifications as required.
Technical Skills
