Due to our increasing growth and project activity we're looking to recruit an additional highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Engineering team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing all mechanical aspects of projects creating electro-mechanical sensor systems, components, and equipment for a variety of applications including Aerospace, Robotics, Automotive and Motorsport. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, this appointment offers the ability to have significant influence within a small and dynamic company commercialising its sensor technology which is a novel technology used to measure strain and temperature in applications ranging from Aerospace engine torque sensors, to sensing temperature in the rotor of an electric motor. The sensor systems are primarily intended to be designed into the customers system/product as a production solution, therefore experience of developing mechanical systems for demanding production applications is a must. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project completion. The appointment brings with it the ability to use a wide range of experiences and knowledge, while at the same time, working within a creative team. The Role: The key responsibilities for the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be: Design and develop mechanical systems and products, including 3D and FEA modelling and testing. Perform detailed engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis using relevant software tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, COMSOL and MATLAB. Analyse and interpret technical specifications, schematics, and engineering drawings to create mechanical designs that meet project requirements and industry standards. Conduct feasibility studies, cost analyses, and risk assessments to identify potential design and development issues and propose solutions. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to ensure that designs meet customer requirements and are manufacturable. Participate in design reviews, and recommend design modifications to improve functionality, reliability, and manufacturability. Create and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, and bills of materials Maintain knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, and apply them to improve design processes and product performance. Lead and mentor junior mechanical engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful project completion. Work with suppliers to select and qualify components and materials and ensure compliance with quality and industry standards. The Person: You will have: A deep understanding of design, development and testing mechanical systems, components, and equipment for various industries, including automotive& aerospace. proficiency in simulation and using analysis tools, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, COMSOL and MATLAB. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to identify and propose solutions to complex technical challenges. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Working knowledge of industry standards and regulations, such as ISO, ASME, ASTM and MIL-STD. Experience in producing technical reports, prototype specifications and customer technical proposals. You will be: Self-motivated. Customer focused and professional. A strong team player - able to adapt and work with different people across multiple engineering functions. highly analytical with excellent numeracy, written and verbal skills Qualifications and Experience PHD or MSc/MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience of a senior position within mechanical engineering. A proven track record of designing and developing successful mechanical systems and components. Experience in one or more of the following industries: automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, or robotics. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, mechanics, and materials science. Experience in Qualification standards such as IATF/AEC or AS/DO or equivalents.
